DLH PLASTERING HISTORY

David Hough is the proprietor of DLH Plastering. He has been dedicated to the wet plastering trade for over thirty years.  He originally apprenticed under his father, Wal Hough (Decorative and Ornamental Plasterers Pty Ltd). Wal comes from a long line of plasterers and emigrated from England in 1970.  Due to the renovation boom that occurred in the late 1970’s,  Wal decided, after a few years of bricklaying, that it was time to return to his original vocation and bring his son David into the trade. Together they concentrated on the restoration of family homes in the Mosman, Balmain and Sydney area

Upon Wal’s retirement in 1995, David started The Original Archway Factory. Approximately one year later, he started DLH Plastering, continuing along the path that his father had trained him in.

David is passionate about all forms of heritage/historical plastering and is a strong advocate for the preservation of historical buildings, believing that all restoration works should not only be aesthetically matched to their specific era, but also constructed using traditional methods and materials wherever possible.

David prefers to keep his business small, stating that he has more control over quality and, is therefore able to keep the benchmark at a very high level.  He has worked with some of Australia’s first and second tier building companies as well as numerous builders and home owners in Sydney, the Central Coast and Newcastle.

His plan for the future of DLH Plastering is to remain a relatively small ‘specialist’ business, train at least one more apprentice into his trade and, restore as many historical buildings as possible before eventually handing over the reins (reluctantly) to another generation.
